Studies peg cost of Jones Act on Puerto Rico at $1.5 billion

The cost of transporting merchandise from the U.S. mainland to Puerto Rico in U.S.-flagged vessels, as required by maritime shipping laws, costs the island $1.5 billion in higher prices for goods, as well as in its effect on competitiveness and lost jobs, according to new studies.
